The mixed-up exhibition

The exhibition opened on Friday 10th of February and will be up until March 10th c/o the Cantina Barbagianni, Via S. Egidio 13r, Firenze (map here).

The exhibition is an introduction to some of the most significant moments and examples of my works as a photographer, comprising Lomo and Holga prints, Polaroid reproductions on plexiglass panels, iPhoneography prints and so on…

New Vintage Digital Vernacular Letters

One more exhibition I have been selected to be part of!
The New Vintage Vernacular Letters is taking place c/o the Mota Italic Gallery in Berlin, a type design studio specializing in unique, extensive type families.
The exhibition is all about found typography and I am so thrilled to be part of it as my fascination for these kind of things - found things *and* typography - has been a huge part of my graphic/design interests for so many years.

If you happen to be in Berlin you should visit the exhibition: the 600-photo selection seems to be plain great!
The gallery is located at Schliemannstraße 34.

While the first part of my new short film is being edited, and I can’t wait to see what our editor comes up with; while yet loads of shooting have to take place for the next epsiode, and I can’t wait to put my next actor in front of the camera…

[UPDATED] …and more exhibitions (Pixel This)

Pixel This - a Phoneography exhibition, runs from November 28 until December 3 at the Gallery on the Corner in Battersea Park, London - and I am one the photographers selected.

What makes this particularly special is that all the photographs will be auctioned off to raise money for Kids Company, an organization reaching 14,000 children across London providing practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people.

The exhibition was created by CreateHive, a site dedicated to recognising photographers, film-makers, artists and creatives, to showcase their work to the general public.

Here is the list of exhibitors and if you are interested in a copy of the image above, you can find it here, here or here - but if you can, check out the exhibition and don’t forget to go to the auction on Friday December 2nd!

UPDATE: the auction has taken place and I am told my photo was auctioned for £90!

Lately I have been almost too busy trying to follow too many things at the same time: a couple of invitations for exhibiting my photographs, the Lumix contest, The International iPhoneography Show in New York, the new short movie I started shooting 2 days ago with directing partner Malvenuti, the book I am preparing, everyday work at the usual office, some bits of personal life and so on… while things seem to keep happening around me.
There are two new interviews that were published during the weekend, and here they are for you to enjoy reading:

- PHOTOS HAPPEN! an interview with HONK! Magazine where I also discuss the impact that photography has had in my life;

- the latest EYEEM Spotlight, titled “Style is everything” – An Interview With Ale di Gangi where the interviewer and the interviewed had a lot of fun doing a video interview and discussed… lots of things!

I would like to thank all those interesting people who are showing interest in my works - I am grateful for all this!

This photo has been featured on the Polaroid Gallery of the New York Times’ “LENS” (check on page 2).

This one Polaroid shot is possibly my favourite in my collection, one I am proud of and for a long list of reasons: from how I took it to the satisfactions it has given me, being selected for important galleries such as the New York Times “LENS” cited above and publications around the world.

The director is about to shoot again

It’s official: I started working on a new short movie, once more with Cristiano Malvenuti, the co-director of the now (in)famous “Investigation of citizens above all suspicions” we made in 2008.

It’s yet too early to say more on the project, but soon official news will be available - and we will start shooting in a marvelous location in Firenze.
In the meantime, follow our Malvenuti & Di Gangi Facebook page to be updated on news as they start flowing and answer the call for extras we’ll announce soon there!

Lumix Lifestyle Italia just published an interview with yours truly after kindly asking me to be part of the jury of photographers for a photo contest to be be launched later this month.

The International iPhoneography Show in New York

MacPhun, creators of FX Photo Studio (amongst others) have just opened submissions for an iPhoneography exhibition to be held at the Soho Gallery for Digital Art of New York in December, just days before Christmas (16th - 22nd).

I will be exhibiting a few photos (you can see some of them on the very home of the website of the exhibition, along with a few other great photos) and you can also find me in the list of friends and supporters of the exhibition.

You can submit as many pictures as you like, there are no entry fees and no hidden tricks, so let your creativity blossom and click Submit when ready to send your awesome photography!

A preview of my next book

Here’s a small preview of the next book I am working on: what you see in this photo is in fact a panel that I have made for a dear friend who requested it, anticipating the booklet I am preparing as a Christmas present for a few friends.

The book will be a collection of portraits of friends and people that somehow are having a presence in my life. The title will be “The people I know” and all portraits will be done in the style of the shots used for this panel.

All photos have been taken and edited with my iPhone and using exclusively the FXPhotoStudio app.
The book will be available from Blurb before Christmas, so orders can be dispatched with plenty of time.

In the meantime, you may visit the Blurb page of all books I have done there or buy prints from Fine Art America (US), Artflakes (EU) or RedBubble!

My experiments with glitch and pop-art on the iPhone (see my previous posts here, here and here) have taken me to a point where I am starting to feel confident enough to show them properly to the world.
I feel though these works need to be grouped in some kind of a different “section” and this is why I am not showing them on my Flickr stream, my main display window.

I have thus decided to showcase these new works on a totally different environment and have chosen various other places for this purpose (some not yet available to see), starting with two print shops: one for the US and one for EU.
Prints are available for sale in the shops listed bleow and according to where you live you might find them more convenient in one shop or the other.

There is a shop on Fine Art America (US) and one on Artflakes (EU); both seem to be producing very high quality prints, posters, cards, canvases and so on, so you might want to visit them to make your order!

This time it’s more focused on Halftones and apps involved were: HalfTone, Snapseed, PictureShow, FXPhotStudio, Iris, Grungetastic, PhotoForge and some other minor things.

I have been invited as one of the guests for the 4th Tuscan GirlGeekDinner in Firenze on Saturday October 4th.

I am definitely thrilled to intervene and would like to thank the girls who so kindly invited me to talk about my experiences on Lomography, iPhoneography, videos and so on.

Experiments: Glitch & more (part 2)

This follows from my previous post titled “Glitch Thinking”.

I guess everything was triggered by a visit a few weeks ago at the Pecci Museum of Conteporary Art in Prato where I visited the interesting exhibition “LIVE! Art meets Rock”.
Of all things, a small Mao portrait made in 1973 by Andy Warhol, in front of which I spent the most part of my visit, acutely revived my fascination for Warhol and his Pop Art.
As a result, I am trying my hand at glitchey, pop-esque, grungey ways of assaulting some of my iPhone photos.
The photos of this post are to be considered as pure experimentation aimed at satisfying my… curiosity.
I still haven’t got the slightest hint about where this might lead me - or not at all…

I would love feedbacks and comments though.

I have been flying a lot in my life, and still every single time I am on a plane it scares the hell out of me - but then I always pretend I am the coolest cat on board…
