Now that you know I am, you can’t ignore this great exhibition, can you…
This is how the event is described by its creators on the official website:

“Ubiquography is a group exhibition that aims to make people think about the traits that define iphoneography: ubiquity and immediacy.
Participants capture, edit and publish photos using their phones, and they are instantly displayed in the exhibition.
The exhibition will be held at the Civic Centre Guinardó in Barcelona. At the same time and simultaneously the exhibition will be projected in other centers around the world.
The offline exhibition will open from May 24 to June 8, 2012.”

Walking amongst them

What happens on an early Sunday morning in the centre of Florence?

I usually don’t like going to the centre of the city because tourists often can ruin my day - it’s just that too many of them are around at the same time, and I don’t find myself at ease in crowded places where walking is hard.

A few days ago, after a long time, I happened to be there in the early morning and I started taking candid shots of strangers in the streets; due to the early time, the streets were quiet and people where more “visible”.

I ended up enjoying myself quite a bit and decided to post some of the shots, all taken with my iPhone and Hipstamatic random combinations.

I kept the shooting sequence, thus avoiding all storytelling from me.

A new reportage I have just released on Clich-hé.

I must say Colapesce released one of my favourite Italian indie albums of at least the last 3 years, and you should definitely check him out. The gig was an intense one, all soaked in magic blue neon lights, while poetry, quietness, real-life storytelling all mixed together to convey a magic night upon us.

PHOTOS HAPPEN!
An interview with KALTLBUT MAGAZINE

Today the German art fashion media magazine KALTBLUT released an interview with yours truly.
The feature is accompanied by a… bizarre selection of my works, both videos and photos - and by bizarre I mean unusual, evident result of a search in my streams on Flickr and Vimeo that pleased me a huge lot since it did not stop to the most recent output but involved older stuff as well, including some of my favourite past photos.

The magazine is packed with a stunning and strong choice of imagery and artists on every field, and I am truly happy and pleased to be featured on their pages.

Mouse on Mars live in Firenze

The splendid setting of the Marino Marini museum of Florence saw the band play during the tour for the new album “Patastrophic”. The band sounded massive, the location proved especially good for the event, and the audience undoubtedly loved every single note of it.

I did a few shoots for a reportage exclusive to Clich-hé, the photography webmagazine I collaborate with as Chief editor for the Events section.

Summer in the city, a city turned again so beautiful for just a few weeks: empty, silent, available, mine again.

Every year it’s so special because it feels like coming home for a short time.

One of my fave views of Florence, my hometown, while not plagued by cars and people in August. One of the best films ever made, Kodak EPP, crossprocessed and twisted.
All the above is now gone and faded: Florence in quiet August, Kodak, EPP analogue film. The world is a sad place, ain’t it.

Some found postcards showing bits of someone’s family life, affections and acquaintances.
This feels like watching someone else living his/her own life.

Please note: the spoken words read the original texts found on the postcards, with a heavy Chinese accent. Written words are the English translations.

I wish dedicate this to a dear friend who last night suffered a deep loss.

A short video I made from an idea I had with my friend/then colleague Marco Biondi using some found postcards thrown away but somehow escaped from destruction.
This is by far yet my favourite short video.
Thanks to my friend Shu-Chun for her endless patience - the Italian voiceover was not easy for her but eventually I succeeded in editing the way I wanted it.

iPhoneogenic’s Mobile Photographers/Artists of 2011

Sometimes I miss some piece of news, maybe I’m trying to follow too many things and something slips, now and then. Then I find it out later out of pure chance - just as it happened this very morning when reading an email with an invitation to take part in a new iPhoneography exhibition in Miami (more news later, hoepfully!).

Turns out a couple of months ago I was included in the iPhoneogenic’s Mobile Photographers/Artists of 2011, “a list of 50 of the most promising, influential, creative, and encouraging mobile photographers/artists out there”.
Wow.
I’m so ashamed I did miss this piece of such great news, and I’m so flattered and honoured to have been selected and included amongst so many of my inspirations!

I’d like to thank the guys and say sorry for missing this earlier.

Due to the very high-quality requirements, no iPhoneography is yet available here; only analogue film (such as Lomoghraphy, Holgaography, etc), digital and Polaroid shots.

The mixed-up exhibition

UPDATE: exhibition EXTENDED until April 10th

The exhibition opened on Friday 10th of February and will be up until ~~March~~ April 10th c/o the Cantina Barbagianni, Via S. Egidio 13r, Firenze (map here).

The exhibition is an introduction to some of the most significant moments and examples of my works as a photographer, comprising Lomo and Holga prints, Polaroid reproductions on plexiglass panels, iPhoneography prints and so on…

New Vintage Digital Vernacular Letters

One more exhibition I have been selected to be part of!
The New Vintage Vernacular Letters is taking place c/o the Mota Italic Gallery in Berlin, a type design studio specializing in unique, extensive type families.
The exhibition is all about found typography and I am so thrilled to be part of it as my fascination for these kind of things - found things *and* typography - has been a huge part of my graphic/design interests for so many years.

If you happen to be in Berlin you should visit the exhibition: the 600-photo selection seems to be plain great!
The gallery is located at Schliemannstraße 34.
