Bio
I was born in Firenze (Italy) in January 1966 in a family where art has always been underrated though tangible thanks to relatives on both sides: musicians, painters and glass-makers of fame, architets, poets and so on.
After doing classical studies I took a University Degree on Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures - specifically, I got my degree on English Language & Literature and History of Cinema with a final discussion titled “For Sadist Only - The Hammer Horror Films and the British Gothic Tradition”.
While studying at the University of Florence, I also worked for a few years as a teacher of Italian Language and Conversation at schools for foreigners.
Before my interest in photography was to be taken as a serious thing I was well in my 30s and had already gotten around to doing many other activities, always art-related in one way or another: sound and post-production engineer, graphic and Web designer, indie recording label cofounder, music journalist, short movie director; I also released a bunch of albums and singles with an indie band, did multimedia/poetry performances and exhibitions and released some of my poetry in books and nationwide anthologies.
My first multimedia exhibition/performance took place in Firenze in 1986 c/o the historic Pat-Pat Recorder Art center; the performance was videotaped by the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato. The videorecording has since been stored in the museum archives.
In 2008 I directed the 3-minutes-long docufiction short movie titled “Investigation of citizens above all suspicions” (watch it on Vimeo).
Since its release, the short was been screened at many international cinema Festivals earning audience appraisals and special mentions; it was also selected for the Cannes Short Film Corner in May 2009.
The short still pops up and gets screenings now and then in various occasions.
After blogging for quite a while in the “early days of blogging” and earning somewhat of a status on the then fresh national Italian “blogging scene”, I got tired of the whole thing and above all I became tired with expressing only through words; this coincided with my growing interest and passion for photography so I decided to abandon blogging and opened a Flickr account, where most of my photographic work can now be seen.
Photography is today my favourite way to communicate with the world.
A non-complete and still under construction list of other materials and publications can be seen on my website at http://aledigangi.com/publications.html
I am earning my living as an employee in an Italian leading company in the field of Web services and products; in the last (not so) few years I have moved from designing to Web programming, from team leading to PM, to Copywriting and Content management.
